Confronted by a valley of dry bones and a demanding God, Ezekiel responds with resignation, “O Lord God, you know.” I suppose he could be speaking with annoyance or frustration, perhaps even bewilderment. But somehow I hear those words uttered with a long, heavy sigh. Bringing life to a bleached out sea of bones–the venture seems monumental. Ezekiel knows he is not up to the task. He’s not even sure if he has enough hope in his old bones to imagine life coming out of such despair.
